We spent Sunday packing and chatting. And early Monday morning loaded luggage and people into 2 vehicles to take the 2-3 hour trip to San Pedro. Hopefully, the Comayagua airport at the US Palmarola military base will be open the next time we come. The President has vowed to have it open in 60 days! The airport in San Pedro is even busier than normal as it is handling all of the air travel for the country until the airport in Tegucigalpa reopens in a few days after the plane accident (see my blog "getting ready to go" from May 30). In the airports, you frequently see large groups of mission teams from the U.S. wearing matching T-shirts. One group on our flight from Texas had just traveled 8 hours in a bus from their work site because the Tegucigalpa airport was closed.
During the flight, I read through two of my favorite magazines, Orion and Coop America's Quarterly newsletter. There is a riveting article in the May/June 2008 Orion on climate change called "Snap into Action for the Climate" which I highly recommend to everyone. (You can read it on-line at http://www.orionmagazine.org/index.php/articles/article/2956). And thankfully, as I was now very motivated to take action, the Coop America issue for the summer 2008 was all about Energy Efficiency. (Not yet online - but it will be soon at http://www.coopamerica.org/pubs/caq/)
